The Chilao / Charlton area ride consists of easy fire road climbs and single track descents down mostly smooth terrain. It can be done all year round so long as long as there is no snow. Even in the hottest days of summer, the temperatures here are typically 10 degrees cooler than anywhere else. A Forest Adventure Pass is required to park anywhere in this area. This is also an excellent base camp for spending the entire weekend camping and riding.
NOTE: The Vetter Mountain Trail which begins at the burned down site of the Vetter Mountain Lookout is closed and completely covered in the poisonous “poodle dog bush“. You’ll also find that bush along some of the lower parts of the Silver Moccossin trail.
